Roomi Gives Back: Partnering with DEED and Concrete Safaris

Back in October, Team Roomi partnered with DEED and Concrete Safaris to clean up a community garden in New York City. Sure; this is a belated recap of our volunteer event, but better late than never! Especially if our story can inspire you to give back in 2017.

Read on to see how Roomi gives back, and find out how you can get involved!

Roomi Gives Back: Partnering with DEED and Concrete Safaris

RoomiNew York City may be a concrete jungle, but locals still enjoy pockets of shared greenery throughout the city. Communal parks and gardens provide safe, shared spaces for entire neighborhoods to experience, and help make communities safer for everyone. What’s not to love?

Team Roomi rolled up their sleeves one Saturday morning and joined Concrete Safaris, an organization dedicated to experiential education for youth, for a day of gardening. The event was was organized and planned by DEED, a nifty, on-demand app that helps users find volunteer opportunities in their area.

Our gang met up with Anthony, one of the founders of DEED, and volunteers from Concrete Safaris. Team Roomi’s good deeds for the day included shoveling dirt, raking leaves, and preparing plants and trees for the winter. We were determined to make a difference—and to sweat out the memories of our Friday evening!

RoomiAfter hours of hard work, we started to see a major difference; the cluttered plot of land between two tall public housing structures became a clean and open garden for the entire neighborhood to enjoy. We were prouder than ever to be part of Team Roomi—and thankful for the opportunity to give back.

To help spruce up your own neighborhood, check out the volunteer opportunities on DEED. Enjoy!
